The WSAV Foundation is now the ProSalus Foundation

We are excited to announce the change in our identity, but otherwise the continuation and expansion of our activities.

What’s Changing?
Our identity is being updated to better reflect our evolution and future expansion.

What’s Staying the Same?
Our core goals and visions remain unchanged, and we continue close cooperation with WSAVA. We just have a new name and extended vision and mission.

VISION
To broaden access to, and quality of, veterinary care in areas of greatest need, including disaster relief, which improves the interconnected health and wellbeing of animals and people and their environment.

MISSION
To build upon existing efforts and drive collaboration among like-minded stakeholders to increase knowledge, capabilities and resources that drive ongoing improvements in the delivery of veterinary care.

Every pet deserves world-class care. That’s why leading veterinary experts came together to create the ProSalus Foundation.

We fund game-changing projects in science, education, and training. Our mission? Connect practicing vets with top specialists to raise the bar for animal care worldwide.

Vets for Ukraine

We’re working with the Zoetis Foundation to provide support for Ukraine, which will start now and continue till the war is over. We propose to split the donation in two phases, 50% is to be provided currently and the remaining part for post-war re-building.

Our initial focus will include:

  1. Financial funds to be sent to USAVA (Ukrainian Small Animal Veterinary Association)
  2. Joining forces with other donors to match their contribution
  3. Carrying out a fundraiser activity by hosting a silent auction of original artwork produced by a very talented Ukrainian artist with the theme of “Better together” which is coming soon.
  4. Asking the veterinary community to help by donating equipment and medical supplies for Ukrainian colleagues to use in practices. This will require significant logistics to collect the donated equipment and arrange transportation. More information will be provided on this website in due course during the next few months of 2025.

Projects

In January 2025 Dr Alex Marko was welcomed to the Board

Born and grew up in Namibia, Alexandra graduated from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2012. Since then she has been in small animal private practice in Windhoek, Namibia. She has a special interest in emergency, critical care and anaesthesiology, which lead her to enrol for the RCVS Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice through the Royal Veterinary College.

The African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN)

In 2014, we saw a growing need in Africa for more advanced veterinary care. In response, AFSCAN was created. AFSCAN aims to create a sustainable network of companion animal veterinarians, associations, and specialist groups in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Together, these groups form new small animal veterinary associations (SAVAs) across the continent.

Each SAVA is the driving force behind collaborations, training, and best practice sharing. It’s all proved pivotal in improving standards of veterinary care in other regions of the world, notably Eastern Europe.

The Fun(d) Run

Our Fun(d) Run tradition began in Auckland, New Zealand in 2013 as a way to raise funds and support the AFSCAN project and Mission Rabies in the fight against rabies. Since 2013, we have travelled around the world to places like Cape Town, South Africa; Bangkok, Thailand; and Cartegena, Colombia as an integral part of the WSAVA Congress and also at VMX in Orlando, Florida in January of each year.

Thousands of participants have joined these fun(d) runs to help raise awareness and donate to a wonderful cause, and we look forward to continuing our tradition globally.
