APPLICATION FOR AN AFSCAN undergraduate veterinary STUDENTSHIP
- AFSCAN Studentships are designed to allow an undergraduate veterinary student in their 4th or 5th year to spend a 6 – 8-week period working in a research laboratory as part of extramural experience. The laboratory may be at their own institution or at another institution.
- The value of these awards is US$1,000. Of this amount, $500 is allocated to the student as a living stipend, and the remaining $500 may be used for bench fees or consumables for the research project.
- The project supervisor, through their institution, will be responsible for managing and allocating the budget.
- Research projects are expected to address issues related to the disease or welfare of companion animals that are relevant to African society.
- Applications must be submitted by the veterinary school, college, or faculty, not by the student directly.
- Each veterinary educational institution may nominate ONE application for their top student.
- Applications must be accompanied by a letter of endorsement from the University (Dean of the School) and a letter of support from the respective AFSCAN Ambassador.
- Applications should be submitted in ARIAL font, size 10, with single line spacing, and must not exceed the word limit specified for each section of this application form. Adhering to the guidelines is mandatory; failure to do so will result in the rejection of the application.
- The supervisor must submit a final scientific report and an expenses report, accompanied by copies of the invoices, to AFSCAN no later than 30 days after the project’s completion, using the appropriate final report form (available for download on the AFSCAN website)
