The ProSalus Foundation is a global charity supporting veterinarians, animals, their owners and their environment.
We work to transform animal health and welfare in the world’s areas of greatest need by strengthening the skills, knowledge and resources of veterinarians.
We provide continuing education resources, research funding, mentoring and other support.
We facilitate the development of veterinary associations and networks in areas where few exist.
We support rabies vaccination campaigns and provide disaster relief in areas with acute animal health and welfare problems.
We do all this as part of an integrated One Health approach to improve the wellbeing of animals, people and their environment.
We have an unrivalled track record in bringing veterinarians together and supporting animal welfare in Africa.

The ProSalus Foundation began life in 2011 as the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Foundation. It was established with the goal of advancing global companion animal care through science and education.
Since then, the Foundation has led pioneering initiatives to support sustainable veterinary practice, particularly across Africa. It has created ten national veterinary associations, delivered continuing education to countless veterinarians and supported many vital rabies vaccination campaigns.
Keen to build on these achievements, in 2024, the Board expanded the Foundation’s focus to include livestock as well as companion animal veterinarians and to extend its reach beyond Africa to other regions of the word where support is most needed.
To reflect its expanded mission – to transform animal health and welfare in the world’s areas of greatest need by strengthening the skills, knowledge and resources of all veterinarians – the Foundation was relaunched as the ProSalus Foundation in late 2024.
The name ProSalus comes from Latin, meaning ‘for health’ or ‘for wellbeing’, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to advancing the welfare of animals – and the people who care for them – globally.
The ProSalus Foundation remains closely aligned to the WSAVA and its goals.
