In November 2024, Zozianne Hoareau-Kakooza, an undergraduate veterinary student from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources, and Biosecurity (CoVAB) at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, received the prestigious “AFSCAN Studentship Award”.
Under the supervision of Dr. Dickson Tayebwa, Zozianne will develop the project titled “Sero-prevalence and Risk Factors of Toxoplasmosis in Domestic Cats in Kampala District, Uganda.”
My name is Zozianne Keenan Hoareau-Kakooza. I am a fifth-year veterinary student at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (COVAB) at Makerere University, Uganda. From a young age, I have always wanted to be a Doctor of Animals. To be able to decipher an animals’ suffering and alleviate it is, to me, the ultimate reward. The AFSCAN award is invaluable to me because without it, I would not be able to undertake my final year project in Veterinary medicine as well as follow my dream, which is to become a published scientific author. I am immensely grateful that you selected me to be one of the beneficiaries.
